Born in Havana in 1984, Janio followed the path of a rigorous musical education and graduated with honors from the Instituto Superior de Arte, becoming a versatile instrumentalist able to play clarinet (soprano/alto/bass), sax (tenor/alto) and flute.

In 2007 Janio founded Aire de Concierto, and a few months later they won the JoJazz 2008, a prestigious International Jazz Festival for Young Musicians held in Cuba.

A flourishing career started, including concerts and tours in Cuba and other countries, recording award-nominated albums and collaborating with well-known musicians such as Tete Caturla, Javier Zalba, Jorge Reyes, Bobby Carcassés, Rolando Luna, Alfred Thompson, Haydee Milanes, and Ivette Cepeda among others.

Recently, the album "Ida y Vuelta" was nominated to the National Music Award "Cubadisco 2018". And the latest release is a Live Concert DVD, "Our Musical Heritage", with a very special guest, Victor Goines -renowned American jazz musician and member of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. All produced by Bis Music, a top recording label in Cuba.

In parallel to his career as a musician, Janio has also grown as an educator, teaching at important music schools in Cuba such as Manuel Saumell, Amadeo Roldan and currently at Escuela Nacional de Arte.

Internationally, he has shared his music and knowledge on workshops in Germany, Bahamas, and on distant countries like South Corea, exchanging with musicians like Haram Lee (Guinness record holder), Yoon Jeong Heo (UNICEF representative in Asia) and Hong Sik Kim.

A year-long exchange at Florida International University and Chicago Northwestern University in the United States significantly increased Janio's strengths and expanded his skill set.

Janio has also vast experience as Musical Director, backed by four years touring in Europe with the German company New Metroprol Concert, and highlighted when, in Cuba, he was appointed to produce the music for the 30th anniversary of the prestigious Jazz Plaza Festival -only time in history different than Chucho Valdes's signature tune. In this occasion, Janio not only composed the music but he also directed multiple generations of important jazz musicians that masterfully performed together.
