Leonardo "Leoni" Torres Álvarez (Camagüey, November 24, 1977). Vocalist, composer and producer, listed as one of the most important figures in Cuban music.

He started his artistic career from a very young age. He was evaluated as a singer in the year 1998 in his hometown. After a fleeting stint in the group Costa Sur, from Camagüey, and an incursion into humor, in 1999 he joined the Maravillas de Florida orchestra and recorded the CD Vieja, but he remains. His work in this orchestra —the second oldest in force in Cuba— caught the attention of David Calzado, who suggested that he join his famous group as a singer.

In 2001 he joined the Charanga Habanera. During the eight years in which he was part of it, he performed duets and projects with important figures of Cuban music. He achieved great successes with hits like "It has Cuba, it has mela'o" and "Gozando y a locubano". He toured the world with David Calzado's charangueros and recorded several albums.

Leoni decided to give way to his own project, alone. His sober image, but at the same time very efficient on stage, his excellent mastery of melody and a simplicity that was not at all apparent were the credentials that quickly placed him in the top places of popular taste.

With his project, he has performed massive concerts throughout the island and has performed in other countries, including Mexico and Canada.

He has placed songs on the national radio charts. Some of his songs are included in the documentary Popular, by the North American filmmaker Jennifer Paz; in the Cuban-Italian film A Crazy Dreamer, directed by the Italian Ángelo Rizo; and in the Cuban-Spanish film Círculos viciosos, by director Antonio Hens.

As of 2014, the artist developed not only as a performer but also as a composer and an example of this are the songs: "Traidora", a song of his authorship defended by Marc Anthony and Gente de Zona with great international success and "Para que un día come back” work that he shares as a duo with Pablo Milanés. In addition to these themes, Leoni placed others in popular preference, such as: “Soledad” and “Me equivoqué”, the latter performed together with the young singer Divan Sotelo.

The year 2016 was decisive for Leoni Torres, especially in favor of his international recognition, and the contract signed with the company Magnus Media, producer of the singer Marc Anthony, greatly contributed to this.

Among the projects presented by Leoni this year is the DVD "From me" made up of attractive versions of songs preferred by the singer such as: "Deja que te falte", by Raúl Paz, "Enséñame", popularized in Cuba by Emmanuel, “Old Horse”, by Simón Díaz; and “Acerca el ear”, a bolero inspired by Arsenio Rodríguez.

After the premiere of this material directed by Yeandro Tamayo, the video clip of the song "Soledad" came to light, current musical success of Leoni Torres. The clip in question is one of the most nominated for the 2016 Lucas Awards as it competes in four categories: Best Production, Best Popular Dance Music Video, Best Art Direction and Most Popular Video of the Year

The outstanding Cuban composer and performer is currently focused on completing his next album, which will be made up mainly of duets with outstanding figures such as Pablo Milanés, Descemer Bueno and Kelvis Ochoa, among others. In the midst of it, he promotes his most recent work entitled "Toda una vida".
