Los Herederos

In the year 2021 Los Herederos is created, it is an immense and heartfelt tribute to the great legacy of Chucho Valdés, to the Master's 80th birthday, and to the 50th anniversary of the foundation of the Irakere group, which will be commemorated in 2023. This project was created with the original format of Irakere, and the artists were changing, achieving the intervention of all the musicians willing to join the project. In total there are sixty-three participating musicians.

Former members of Irakere, and others who were part of various instrumental formats under the direction of Chucho Valdés, take part as instrumentalists, among them artists of the stature of Enrique Pla, Carlos del Puerto, José Luis Cortés, Javier Zalba, Orlando "Maraca" Valle , Germán Velazco, César López, Alfred Thompson, Yaroldy Abreu, Adel Gonzalez, Rodney Barreto, Gastón Joya and many others. Musicians from new generations joined such as Rolando Luna, Harold López-Nussa, Miguel Ángel García Fernández “Wiwi”, Lino Dariel Piquero, Héctor Quintana, Emilio Hernández Martiní, and more. Two of his sons are also present: Jessie and Leyanis Valdés, with their group Valdés Brother; and that of his nephew Roberto Carlos Rodríguez Valdés, “Cucurucho Valdés”.

All this joint work resulted in a phonogram that tries to bring together most of the musicians who were members of Irakere, and who today show off solid proposals as instrumentalists, composers, directors, orchestrators, and record producers. The phonogram is made up of ten songs: six new ones, written by former members of Irakere (Orlando Valle Maraca, Germán Velazco, César López and José Luis Cortes), three compositions written by Chucho Valdés, and a potpourri from the repertoire by Irakere, with songs by Chucho, Oscar Valdés and Ricardo Díaz.

This first record work in Tribute to Chucho Valdés and Irakere, the themes, is characterized by its rhythmic force, was written by different musicians from around the world such as an outstanding flutist, composer, director and music producer, Orlando Maraca Valle reflecting the imprint of a zone important part of Irakere's work: the fusion of cultures of Afro origin, which developed in Cuba, and of course, Latin jazz.
