Born a natural pianist who from the age of five already showed his flexibility on the instrument, to which we must add his talents as a dancer, becoming a professional, in the music magazine directed by Don Luis Riera, with which he traveled to Mexico in 1938.

Upon his return to the country, he made his debut as a pianist on the radio stations RHC Cadena Azul, owned by Mr. Amado Trinidad Velazco, and CMQ, owned by Miguel Gabriel and Ángel Cambó; (These gentlemen were the creators of the game show that did so much good to rising stars in the Cuban musical environment called "The Supreme Court of Art"), Fernández Porta's ductility and success were such that he played two pianos with gift Ernesto Lecuona Hunted The advertising company for Gravi products hired Mario Fernández Porta to present the space A message for you on the RHC Cadena Azul radio station, in which the young composer created new numbers practically with a daily rhythm.

From then on, Fernández Porta became one of the most requested composers by performers and orchestras inside and outside the country, while he continued to work as a pianist accompanying the main singers of the time. In 1944, with the Julio Gutiérrez orchestra, the Mexican tenor Pedro Vargas recorded his bolero “Llegaste”; René Cabel, with the Casino de la Playa, recorded “Vergüenza” for him, and later, Lies of yours. In 1946, the composer and orchestral director of Mexican origin, Mr. Gabriel Ruíz, recorded his bolero “I don't remember”, with the voice of the singer Mario Gil. In 1947 René Cabel again, accompanied by the Tito Ribero orchestra, recorded “Vuelvo a Quiero” for him, and La Orquesta Cosmopolita in the voice of Tito Álvarez recorded “You can't tell me no”. In Mexico, Mario Fernández Porta made presentations as a singer, backed by none other than the Gonzalo Curiel orchestra (El de Vereda Tropical).

In addition, accompanied by the Maravilla Tropical Orchestra and his own group made up of Mexican musicians, he made recordings of boleros and mambos. His music was included in several movies. Upon his return to the Island, in 1950 he musically coincides again with the great pianist, exceptional composer and orchestral director Mr. Julio Gutiérrez, this time, Fernández Porta, as a singer, recorded the pieces (of his authorship: "Anoche me quisiste y" My insistence "; from the pen of Julio de Gutiérrez "My desperation" and "A mambo for you".

With Julio Gutiérrez, he created a Vocal quartet, we remember other compositions of his like; I live without you, What a pity it gives me, in your privacy and For Cuba I bring a son, the latter performed by Celia Cruz. On the other hand, in this same year, El Conjunto Casino recorded “Contéstame al fin”, again with the voice of Roberto Espí, and Tito Guízar with Casino de la Playa, recorded the bolero-mambo “Amoroso”. In 1962 the great composer Mario Fernández Porta who had left Cuba in 1960, passing through the Dominican Republic and Mexico; he records in. San Juan Puerto Rico a long-playing record of his hits with the Humberto Suárez orchestra. In 1964, he settled in Miami. He performing in clubs, restaurants, hotels and organized concerts with singers, groups and composers of his time. He recorded piano and rhythm records (1973-74) in which Carlos Bonachea, bass; Raúl Marrero, Drums; Ronnie Rodríguez, drums among others.

Sadly, the month of December that had brought him to the world, he took him to Miami, on December 13, 1996.
