The Original Manzanillo Group was founded on December 21, 1963, the Manzanillo Original Orchestra is a defender of Cuban popular music, always under the direction of Wilfredo (Pachy) Naranjo.

It maintains a musicality that combines what is most native to Cuba with a very own way of cultivating the son.

It has its origins in a group of young people from the "Masó" Junior High School directed by Juvencio Guerrero and a group of workers, who met at the house of Wilfredo Naranjo (Father) and Jesús Armesto every weekend and some days for the night; its initial name was "Los Traviesos"; their first movements are made in a guagüita that Porro handled.

It is the flagship orchestra of the province of Granma and has a discography of 17 LPs and 17 CDs evaluated by four EGREM awards where they have obtained Silver records, the maximum in the Cuban discography and more than 45 hits on the National Radio of Cuba.

It has a wide repertoire and although it is considered a son orchestra par excellence, it includes several genres such as son, guaracha, danzón, rumba, cha-cha-chá, salsa and Caribbean rhythms, among others.

Among its founding members are Wilfredo Naranjo, Eduardo Aguirre, José Pérez Varona, Jorge López, Enrique Arango, Manuel Herrería, Pedro Fonseca, Tomas Estacio, Jesús Armesto, Jorge Moreno, Mario Pérez Varona, José García and Pedro Rivero.

Of these, Wilfredo Naranjo (Pianist and arranger), Enrique Arango (Güirist), Pedro Rivero (Singer) and Tomas Estacio (Violinist) remain in the Orchestra.

Among its merits is having been the first Manzanillo Orchestra to represent it abroad and it is the flagship Orchestra of the Granma province.

It is one of the first orchestras that used Organeta in Cuba and one of the first to use electric guitar. Among the prizes in 1985 and 1988 winners of the EGREM silver record.

In 1988 Alejo Carpentier medal awarded by the Council of State.

In 1989 the Grand Prize for dance music in the Adolfo Guzmán contest and first prize for interpretation, the Grand Prize at the Sindo Garay Provincial Festival, National Vanguard Orchestra for five consecutive years.
