Tumbao Havana. Cuban group of popular music that assumes Son as the main genre although they work with other genres such as changüí, cha cha chá, mambo, mozambique and other Latin rhythms, among which Merengue, bachata, cumbia and Latin Jazz stand out.

The story goes back to the year 1980 in Guantánamo, eastern Cuba, birthplace of the Changüí (musical rhythm born in that province), under the protection of the Nueva Trova and the Movement of Amateur Artists, when a group of pioneers played in a special way the They are Montuno.

That group was called Gray and it was the prelude to what is today Tumbao Habana. After that adolescent musical experience, several of those young people decided to materialize a project whose premise was to assume Son as the main genre, although they would not stop working with genres such as changüí, cha cha chá, mambo, mozambique and other Latin rhythms, among which Merengue, bachata, cumbia and Latin Jazz stand out. T

o achieve this goal, they looked for other talented musicians with the same musical interest and using Tumbao as the name (which is precisely the cadence of Son, the rhythm that characterizes it with regularly repeated sounds and that give that seal that distinguishes Cuban music from the rest. of the world) Havana (for being the capital of Cuba and the place where soneros from all over the island concur) and debuted as a group in the famous Tropicana Cabaret on December 29, 1997.

Since then the work carried out by these musicians has been commendable, the sonority achieved makes them be recognized by an audience that follows them precisely for that way of doing and saying Cuban popular music. This is possible not only because of the talent that accompanies these young people, but because they are also graduates of various music schools. Presentations in several cities in Japan and Mexico, performances in the most prestigious squares in the country, in tourist centers, on radio and television programs, winners of several awards in national festivals and protagonists of the compact disc.
